Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF), is an American company that sells apparel and related products under five lifestyle brands: namesake Abercrombie & Fitch stores, targeting college students; abercrombie stores aimed at kids 7-14; Hollister stores, targeting high school students; Ruehl No.925, aimed at post-college young professionals; and soon-to-open Gilly Hicks, offering women's lingerie and loungewear. The merchandise is sold in the brands' retail stores, catalogs and online. As of September 2007, the company operates 1004 stores across all brands. There are stores in all U.S. states except Wyoming, six locations in Canada, and one store located on Savile Row in London, England.
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. plans to continue expanding in Canada and throughout Europe and Japan in the next few years. Domestic expansion will also continue with the opening of the first five Gilly Hicks stores in January 2008. Founded in 1892, the company was for many decades an outfitter of outdoor and excursion goods. It struggled financially from the late 1960s until it was purchased by The Limited in 1988 and repositioned as a lifestyle brand. The company is currently headed by Michael S. Jeffries, who has been the CEO since 1988.
