GEWISS was founded in 1970 and grew up on the philosophy of “development as a constant factor of management”: continuous evolution of products, market, structure, value and communication over the course of time. The use of technopolymer in electrical plant engineering is revolutionary and leads to greater safety, functionality, ease of installation and aesthetic benefit. The container is designed to work simultaneously as a shunt and distribution system for electrical energy. This decade sees the inauguration of the Cenate Sopra (Bergamo) works, reaching a surface area of 6,000 m2. Another significant moment is the change of the company in 1975 from a private firm to a limited company.
GEWISS’s sales range is increasingly taking the shape of a global installation solution in the civil, tertiary and industrial fields, as amply demonstrated by its catalogue of 1,000 products. GEWISS experiences a historic moment in 1988 when it is quoted on the Milan Stock Exchange. Its turnover exceeds 25 billion halfway through the decade and is quadrupled at the end of the 80s.
The decade opens with the inauguration of the technology and production centre in Cenate Sotto (Bergamo), thus enabling a large jump in the Company’s production capacity. The internationalization process is intensified in the second half of the 90s through various acquisitions of European leading companies in the sector, leading to the constitution of the GEWISS Group. The GEWISS brand is today in a position to offer a unique portfolio of products with over 15.000 items: the widest possible range for the international “global installation system”.
In ’97 GEWISS enters the sector of automatic switchgear and becomes the sector leader with the 90 Range Compact Units, the only one in the world with two protected poles in a single module. From the beginning of the year 2000 the new Calcinate Logistical and Technological Centre is operative in Bergamo, representing a strategic position enabling coverage of the whole of Central Europe within a radius of 1,000 km.
From the point of view of the overall market, GEWISS, in February 2001, launched a new portal dedicated to the electronic sector.
This period is characterized by the consolidation of GEWISS’s offer GEWISS towards the Integrated Electrical System, thanks to modern infrastructures and technologically advanced productive systems.
Focusing on the global competition, GEWISS launched in 2001 the new Internet Portal, dedicated to the electrotechnical sector. During 2004 and 2005 GEWISS has widened its horizons towards the non-European markets.
A joint-venture agreement was signed in New Delhi (India) with an important Indian society C&S Controls & Switchgear Group, that has carried to the constitution of C&S GEWISS India (p) Ltd, in order to reach a top position in the upper-middle segment of Indian electrotechnical market.
In China, the GEWISS Electrical Devices (Suzhou) Co Ltd has been constituted. Situated in the Industrial Park of Suzhou, near Shanghai, it aims to develop to the commercialization for the entire Far East market. On 3 October 2005 the company GEWISS ISTANBUL E.T.M.T. LTD S. was established in Istanbul. The subsidiary, entirely controlled by GEWISS, aims to develop the market directly on local ground.
In December the company O.O.O. GEWISS RUSSIA was set up in Moscow. Founded with the aim of extending new development opportunities in the Russian market, the company is made up of a team of experts that will work to strengthen and develop the awareness of the GEWISS brand and products.
