Kotex is a brand of feminine hygiene products, including maxi pads, pantiliners (named Lightdays), and feminine wipes. In addition to Kotex maxi pads, Kotex makes Security tampons. Kotex is owned and managed by the Kimberly-Clark. Kotex became well-known in 1921, when Kimberly-Clark placed some advertising in Good Housekeeping magazine. Although some people were offended by the ads, the success led to a push for more advertisements. Kimberly-Clark promoted Kotex in Good Housekeeping by using an intimate advice columnist, Mary Pauline Calender. The astonishing success of advertisements for a supposedly taboo item was also done by Listerine and Fleishmann, who achieved similar success during, approximately, the same era.
