Kymco is the trade name for the Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd (traditional Chinese: 光陽工業; pinyin: Guāng Yáng Gōng Yè). The company manufactures motor scooters, motorcycles, and ATVs. It is the largest scooter manufacturer in Taiwan. Kymco was founded in 1963 to make parts for Honda. They built their first bike in 1970 and began marketing under the "Kymco" brand name in 1992. Kymco's factory is located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and has roughly 3000 employees. They produce over 480,000 machines per year. They also have overseas production factories in Jakarta (Indonesia), Shanghai, Changsha (China), and Chengdu(China). In Australia Kymco scooters are branded as Bug Scooters.
Kymco offers a reduced product line in the United states which includes 15 scooters, 9 ATV's and the Venox 250 cruiser which has been reviewed as one of the best starter cruisers in the US market. Kymco sales in the United States are coordinated through Kymco USA, headquartered in Inman, South Carolina. Kymco USA currently serves over 600 US dealerships which offer various levels of the US line-up.
