Pauric Sweeney (born 1973), is a London-based Irish fashion designer. Sweeney was born in County Donegal, Ireland in 1973. He boarded at Blackrock College as a student, and later trained as an architect at Temple University in Philadelphia. He left his undergraduate studies early and relocated to east London, where he started his first studio and gallery space named Root.
Contemporary fashion designers such as Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen and Giles Deacon lived and worked in the area, as well as the Young British Artists including Sue Webster & Tim Noble, Tracey Emin, The Chapman brothers, Sarah Lucas and others. Derelict warehouses and 19th Century industrial spaces were ‘regenerated’ into studios, galleries and living spaces for the talented influx from England and around the World.
Root acted as a studio and gallery for the young designer, located in the Truman Brewery building on Brick Lane, the space evolved into a showcase for Pauric’s avante garde designs. Moving from furniture design to jewelry, the designer drew upon his training as an architect to begin working with diverse materials and techniques. He quickly caught the attention of leading stylists and his work began to be featured in magazines such as Visionaire, I-D, The Face, Vogue and Purple magazine.
The headquarters are located within a 14th century building, opposite Palazzo Frescobaldi, the famous Florentine wine producing family palace. Pauric’s design studio and showroom is in Piazza Signoria, nearby the Medici built Uffizi, home to the finest and most extensive collection of pre-Renaissance and Renaissance art.
Pauric has created special accessory collections for Comme dęs Garcons Dover Street Market, Barneys Tokyo and Biffi Banner-Milan as well as participating in several art based projects internationally. For the Autumn Winter 2007 Men’s Fashion Week, Sweeney re-launched his men’s line, creating a window exhibition at L'Eclaireur, Rue Malher in Paris.
Celebrity clients include Hollywood actress and the new face of Miu Miu, Lindsay Lohan, entertainers Madonna, Courtney Love, Pink and others. The clientele ranges from young fashion leaders and celebrities to Park Avenue princesses and real princesses in the Middle East. The designer has been courted by luxury fashion companies including Givenchy, Loewe, and Christian Lacroix. The London Business School commissioned and published a case study on the brand.
