The SPCA of Texas is the leading animal welfare agency in North Texas with two shelters and three spay/neuter clinics located in Dallas (362 S. Industrial Blvd. and Village Fair) and in McKinney, and serves as an active resource center providing an array of programs and services that bring people and animals together to enrich each others' lives.
A comprehensive animal welfare agency, the SPCA of Texas does not receive general operating funds from the city of Dallas, state of Texas, federal government, the ASPCA or any other humane organization. The SPCA of Texas provides continual public information through all avenues of available media, including live, weekly television spots & radio shows, as well as the quarterly Animal Talk newsletter, 1-888-ANIMALS phone-line and website at www.spca.org. In addition to seeking specific funding for equipment and capital needs, the SPCA is always seeking volunteers to help with the animals and projects for the animals such as data entry, mail fulfillment, carpentry skills and fundraising.
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (Tax ID #75-1216660), dedicated to the welfare of animals and people programs. On February 1, 2006, by mandate of the SPCA’s board of directors, the SPCA of Texas officially began functioning as a Reservation Required shelter, meaning that it will no longer euthanize animals for lack of space.
The goal to no longer euthanize for space was first proposed in 2000 as a part of a comprehensive five-year plan designed to take the SPCA into the 21st century as a state-of-the-art, cutting-edge animal shelter while remaining more intensely focused on its core mission, to improve the welfare of all animals.
This policy change will ultimately result in the improved treatment of our communities’ sick, injured and homeless animals and enable the SPCA to provide greater service to all animals in need.
